Spring Driving Tips

The clocks have gone ahead, the days are getting longer and the snow is slowly disappearing – most will say this was the coldest winter we’ve had in quite a while. Hopefully you made it through the winter with no issues.

Now that it is starting to warm up, we frequently get asked when is a good time to remove winter tires. Tire manufacturers usually say once the daytime temperatures are staying above 7 degrees Celsius, it’s a good time to remove the snows.

As temperatures warm up, the softer tread that helped your winter tires grip icy roads now begins to wear much faster than their all-season counterparts. Here are some other essential spring driving tips to ensure that your vehicle is road-ready.

Preparing for Spring Driving

The point of tire removal is also a good time to also have the brakes, suspension, exhaust and under car components checked over to see how everything held up over the winter months. For those of you running all-season tires, a spring oil change service is a good time to have a look over your vehicle.

Cold weather and the freeze-thaw effect on the roads means potholes. I always recommend an alignment check and correction once we have pothole season out of the way as well – one good hit in a pothole can subtly alter the alignment of your vehicle, causing premature tire wear over time.

When we align a vehicle, we use industry leading, dealership level equipment that gives you a easy to understand visual report of what your vehicle alignment was when we started, as well as a final report showing all is within factory specs.

Rustproofing in Time for Spring

Winter driving means salt on the roads, which can lead to rust on your vehicle – a spring rustproofing from our neighbours at Buffer Auto Clean –  can help keep any rust from spreading and save money down the road on repairs on things such as brake and fuel lines, while protecting the structure of your vehicle as well.

With the stuff you can’t see taken care of, we can also have the professionals at Buffers freshen up the parts of your vehicle that you can see. With your spring service we can have the exterior washed, waxed and sealed, and even have the interior cleaned and salt residue removed from carpets and mats – nothing like a good spring cleaning to help renew your ride.

Contact us today to set up an appointment! We schedule all the work, and you simply drop your vehicle off with us and pay one bill once we’re finished.

Happy Motoring! 🙂
